I prefer Midnight and Turn Left's score myself. :D

Midnight still terrifies me, ack!

NGL, the thing I'm most looking forward to for the 50th anniversary is hearing the 9/10 theme again.

I mean, "I Am The Doctor" is a great piece and I love it, but I miss hearing the old theme, like the way I miss the distinctive cologne of an old friend.

So what it's a tv sound track? That doesn't mean it's automatically sub standard music. Great music is great music, regardless of where it comes from or why it was created.

This; soundtracks have had some gorgeous songs. IMO the Atonement soundtrack is a complete masterpiece and a work of art.

This. TV soundtracks don't tend to be as stellar as the ones for films, but there are still some amazing TV scores out there (and sadly they can be really hard to find; thankfully DW stuff is an exception).

The Cold Case theme song still sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
well, cold case's opening is actually an extant piece of music though, not something composed specifically for the show. (es posthumous' nara - though I think the vocal rise at the start WAS added solely for the show). I say this because perhaps you might enjoy more of es posthumous' music

So much this. A lot of my favorite music is BGM or themes from movies and shows.

The Oods' Song of Freedom, for instance.

Oh my, that old theme was so haunting and ethereal and gorgeous...not to dump on Eleven's theme or anything, but it seems more like an action theme, which obviously means it has a very different feel to it.

I don't understand why this is embarrassing. The music for Dr Who is beautiful, composed wonderfully and performed fantastically. Just because it's orchestral (BBC Orchestra of Wales <3) and not mainstream doesn't make it any less great.

Personally I love it when the songs come on my MP3 player, makes even ordinary things like a bus journey feel like an adventure.
