Me too, but mainly because I immediately went "oh fuck no, are they going to be harping on this all next season?"

And guess what? Yup! They did! Why? Uhhh....I don't know. Can someone tell me why in the hell the Doctor's name is something that should be cared about at all? If there were some specifics about why it was important, I'd be interested, but as of now it could be the Deplorable Word, the question to "42", the answer to "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck", or all three rolled into one, for all it mattered to the story.

So the corniness of that scene might only because especially super-annoying because of how pointless it was.

Maybe he used his name as the aural key to unlock something big. Like maybe something that would reverse some critical event that would prevent the time war from ending.

I dunno, I'm just hoping it'll turn out to be something cool.

Holy cow.

Part of your comment is amazingly accurate. The rest of it is hilariously off.

Oh dear. I'm assuming the "hoping it's really cool" isn't the amazingly accurate part? :(

Well, it's subjective, but as someone who pre-ordered the Blurays and doesn't even know how to gif or photoshop, much less torrent, I'm going to suggest a box of tissues this Saturday, both for tears of sadness and disappointment.

Ok? I haven't seen the finale yet and I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague, so.

I didn't know the finale was available anywhere...it doesn't air on BBC until Saturday. Was there a leak or something?

I didn't think it was, but apparently some people who pre-ordered the season on Blu-ray have already received it.

If the Doctor's name is revealed to be the answer to "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck?" I will take back everything I ever said about Moffat. :D

I hate it now because holy shit it got annoying fast.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-15 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That didn't make me cringe as much as the "badass" dolly-in grim srs raise-your-head shot of the Doctor from under the brim of that idiotic Stetson right afterwards.

However, the "Doctor Who" gag has gotten so fucking old. Thank god none of the guest writers since The Bells of St. John have used it. And the "Dr. what?" from Hide was actually funny because it side-stepped the name-drop, almost as if Cross knew how excruciating on-the-nose and pointless the phrase "Doctor Who?" is.

Ah, nuWho fans lose their shit over anything and everything. They just come into the show's fandom to rage about the show not being the sparkles and pretty it is in their mind. Or to accuse Stephen Moffet of being evil.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Um, where in the secret is the OP losing their shit? They thought a scene was second-hand-embarrassment-inducing. That's all.

Also, lol at your implication that nuWho fans are more whiny than oldschool fans. Both have their good contingents, but when you take the rotten section of nuWho fans and the rotten section of oldschool fans, the oldschool ones are far worse about their spluttering and sniveling and stick-up-their-ass-having, by a noticeable, if not exactly sizable, margin.

And I personally rage about the show being *too much* sparkles and pretty, when it's so much better when it allows itself to be a bit dark and painful.

What is this comment even.

Dear lord, have you visited Gallifrey Base recently? Or perhaps you are from there and are similarly in a state of perpetual cognitive dissonance and rageyness.

Are you new?

Doctor Who fandom was basically founded on people complaining.

This isn't limited to nuWho.

Not just the NuWhos- we've been finding things to have circular arguments of high-grade wank about since at least... ooh, the late eighties that I know about.

Now I'm sad that I've probably missed some premium 60s and 70s wank. Sigh.
