Amy's Baking Company Meltdown (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/14/amys-baking-company-kitchen-nightmares_n_3274345.html)

I never watch this show but oh my the trainwreck of this episode was amazing to watch. Anyone else in on this disaster?

I saw it a few days ago and... damn. I don't know how much of the episode/crazy vibes are from editing and studio voodoo, but these are two people that should absolutely not be in the restaurant business. The meltdown on the Facebook page was particularly telling - but it looks like a lot of recent posts were deleted, because they were not written by Samy and Amy. "Obviously our Facebook, YELP, Twitter and Website have been hacked. We are working with the local authorities as well as the FBI computer crimes unit to ensure this does not happen again. We did not post those horrible things. Thank You Amy &Samy"

Mm hmm.

Still, I think the "online justice" from random people who saw the show and had never set foot in the restaurant is just as bad.

Edit: And now there's apparently an IAMA on reddit from the waitress Katy. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1eegnm/former_waitress_katy_cipriano_from_amys_baking/ Considering it's only three hours old and there doesn't look to be any verification, I'm calling bullshit.

No, wait, it looks like it was confirmed on Twitter.

Oh man, this whole thing has been SO AMAZING.

I don't understand why those two signed up for this show at all. They said it was so they could show the world how good they are but that is not how this show works - had they even seen anything? I have never seen such a trainwreck of crazy.

I think they wanted validation, and Gordon Ramsay to say that their cooking is amazing and delicious and that nothing is their fault.
Perfect plan.

Amy has deluded herself so deeply that she thought (Even said so in the beginning of the show) that Ramsay was only going to tell her she was right. It didn't occur to her at all that she's wrong, or that she can't cook to save her life, or that she's not hot shit.

I get that she was a prostitute, and thinks 'god' sent her sugar daddy husband to save her, but the levels of low-self esteem she has is off the damn charts. She freaking tries to HARM a customer with an overly spiced salad-She really does not understand a restaurant is a business where you serve the customer. It's not an 'Amy pedestal' where customers have to serve you and give you compliments. I also love how she's practically giggling like a child when her cakes are complimented, and all she does is buy them from another baker and resells them)

I read that today and I'm so watching that when I get home. I stopped watching that stupid show, but I still have a bunch on my DVR.

Wow. If there is ever a book on how not to manage a restaurant and bad customer service, they'll be on the front cover. That's appalling.

Pocketing the waiters' tips? That's vile, especially from people who were able to invest 1 million dollars in their restaurant...
I hope the people they've fired/will fire will find jobs in a better environment.

It's also illegal. I will laugh so hard if they get charged for breaking the law-And I highly doubt they claim those tips on their taxes either.

Oh my god, that woman is delusional!

I can't help but wonder what the waitstaff were being paid -- if they were getting true minimum wage, or the crappy wage tip-earners can be paid.

The waitress on Reddit says she was being paid $8/an hour, for 5-6 hour shifts a day. But she had another job on the side, in another restaurant.

OMG. Train wreck is 100% correct. You can't look away! I've never seen Kitchen Nightmares either. But this hour of TV is riveting. Absolutely, horrifyingly mesmerizing!

I've been following this since last night. They keep posting on their facebook that it is "A lie!! And cyberbullying!!" that they stole server's tips-Even though Samy flat out says it TWICE during the episode. They're re-opening at the end of May, and saying a portion of the proceeds are going to a charity that prevents cyberbiullying. The amount of stupidity and sheer insanity is over the charts.

Amy kept making new facebook pages for their place, and would FLIP when people found it. She went from calling people fat, stupid, homophobic slurs, you name it.

I LOVE that they think Ramsay "lied" and everyone is "haters". Oh, and in case anyone didn't know, she's a convicted felon who used a stolen SSN to open up a 15k line of credit. She was caught and ended up serving time many, many years later.

I swear, she's the most severe case of NPD I have ever seen. She actually thought that he was going to come there to tell them everything was perfect and that she was amazing. I, just, what? And the bit at the end where she's verbally trying to convince herself that that's what happened-"He must know we don't need help!!". Ughhhhh.

I got to Ramsay meeting them and then couldn't go on.

Kinda wanna go there sometime, just to see if it's always like that, but something tells me it wouldn't be a good idea. XD

Re: Kitchen Nightmares

It got worse. Once she realizes he's there to actually change her ~perfect amazing culinary fairy touch~, she just ignores him/screams at him/tells him he's wrong. Basically she has !binders! of good reviews (Oh, and the online haters she's talking about? She had less than 100 reviews on yelp before the show aired, and I'd say less than twenty were one star)

Oh, and she makes a seventeen year old sever cry by following her and screaming at her that she's fired, simply for asking a question. She then goes on to call her a 'poisonous viper'. I have a feeling she is insanely jealous of her female staff, and that's why she does that shit to them.

Re: Kitchen Nightmares

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
If you watch the video, Sammy tries very hard to make his wife not call the cops. A little while later he physically assaults a customer. I don't think his reasoning for not wanting the cops there had anything to do with handling the situation with a clear head. A lot of people have commented that it looks like he's laundering money (He even screams at Ramsay that he is a 'gangster' and will basically fuck him up) He's also the only one who handles money and puts in orders. Hmmm.

Their facebook page has thousands of comments, and none of them are positive/in support of them. I've read through them-and so I don't know why they keep saying they have supporters? Another delusion I guess. I also don't understand why they keep posting for other people to show proof that they steal the waiter's tips, when...it is recorded on film-TWICE. I just, the amount of self delusion is kind of scary. I got the feeling Amy might also be in the higher end of the autism spectrum-maybe she has aspergers.

Re: Kitchen Nightmares

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Supposedly they have priors...or at least Amy does. I wouldn't be surprised if Samy was doing something shady with the restaurant.

Your second point I vehemently disagree on, though. Autism is not just a catch-all diagnosis for people that meltdown in public! I've worked with autistic and other developmentally disabled adults for years, and there's nothing about that woman that reads as autistic at all. I don't like doing online diagnosis because I'm not a doctor, but she comes off very strongly as someone affected by NPD.
