Huh? Why would you want to write fanfic for something you're not even interested enough to watch? For me, personally, I feel like I have to watch every episode of a show and know a lot of source information off-hand in order to be comfortable enough to write for it. Different stokes for different folks and all that- it's not hurting anyone, it's just odd?? Criticising other people for being non-canon is hilarious, though.

They're not fans of the work, they're fans of the fandom.

I've seen that a few times.

An older anime example...Weiss Kruz was a big one - most of the fandom was of the opinion the source material sucked, but the fanworks made the whole thing awesome.

Yeah WK is one of the few times I'd agree the fanon was considerably more interesting than the canon anyway.

Yeah, it didn't big me as much as make me eye-roll.

(And then there are those who know a series "canon" based on a Abridged parody .... :p)

I'm one of those people who enjoyed the YGO: Abridged series and the manga more than the regular dub anime, to the point where I don't remember how the dub went anymore.

oh, YGOTAS is fun, for sure. ~ It's just when you get people insisting that "Florence" and "Melvin" are canon names (and Thiefshipping a canon 'ship ) that ... well ... :p

I just want to take all the abridged fans and shove them into some abandoned place with Homestuck fans and Hetalia fans.

We get it. You're not fan of the series. Stop ruining it for us who are with your stupid jokes.

Teen Wolf seems to has people who think Sterek is hot but find that the show doesn't really have much Sterek and that they're not interested in what it does have. They stick to fandom.

Comics tend to get this because people watch the movies and then write trying to include the comics. People see panels out of context (like say, when someone's brainwashed or it's an alien is pretending to be that character) and will misinterpret it and correct others on it. There's also a lot of confusion over all the canon AUs by people who know that it happened but not that it didn't happen in the main universe.
