Yes! I remember boggling at all the hate piled on SGU, for example, before the show even aired a single episode.

That was a very good example, trying something new =/= bad. (i will generally state the other stargates are better, but SGU was still pretty great in its own way)

I still haven't finished watching the show, but I enjoyed what I've seen so far. (and I agree with you that it's probably the weakest of the franchise but not the utter abomination it was touted to be by a certain segment of the existing Gateverse fandom at the time).

yeah, it got off to a slow start, but the end of each season are both pretty great.

TBTB at the time didn't do much in their favour to get it off the ground, i don't know specifics but i've heard there is a bunch of drama from that time. lol.

I tried to stay clear of it, but even if i'm mad or just don't think something is my thing, i'll still watch the show before i rip it apart ahahaha.

It was because they cancelled two successful shows to make it. TPTB said fuck you to Atlantis fans and several times stated they don't need the old fans because they want to attract new ones with SGU. They cancelled SGA and went on with "Look at what we're going to do with all the monies! Create a pile of shit that is nothing like the Stargate you loved! We'll fuck up your favourite characters. We'll fuck up the mythos! We'll make it about fucking kids and their stupid dramas. We'll take everything you loved about this and make it into an unrecognisable mutant and you'll still love it! You have to! There won't be anything else!"

They promised a movie to wrap the Atlantis story up but then promptly started selling the props. And then SGU flopped when nearly no one cared for it (SG had pretty big core viewership, they didn't stay for SGU). I've watched the entire thing in hopes it would pick up but no, it stayed bad despite the good cast. And now TPTB killed a franchise that has been going on for years (and NO. It's not the fault of boycotting fans as the producers seem to believe - if it was as good as they believed it would have had viewers who weren't fans of SG) and it's yet another thing that makes me hate it. Goodbye movies.

Not a Stargate fan, but I do recall hearing about all this when it went down. And honestly, if TPTB were arrogant enough to say "we don't need you, we'll get new fans", then I kind of love the fact that it blew up in their face. Call it karma, schadenfreude, whatever, but in that case, I feel the universe unfolded as it should. (Except that I feel sorry for the SGU fans who got caught in the crossfire.)

Exactly correct, TPTB here screwed everyone over. SGU was an abomination to the franchise but it might have been OK as something original outside the Stargate fandom.

It deserved every ounce of hate it got. One of the best days of my life when it was canceled.
