To coin a phrase: "Intentions aren't magical." What you MEAN by the phrase or WANT people to take away from it isn't necessarily the message the person you're speaking to is going to hear and internalize. You can't know what actual harm you might be doing. If any of this sounds familiar, IT SHOULD.

On the flip side, if you think it's EVER okay to gang up and shout someone into silence for merely stating an opinion with which you disagree, even vehemently, then I have very little respect for you. Two wrongs do not make a right, and when you sink to an asshole's level you're certainly not lifting anyone up or making the world a better place. You're just adding one more asshole of a slightly different variety.
