I wish Littlefinger had sent her to the Dreadfort.

Exactly!

I didn't like Ros much as an actual character, but the way she was treated on the show was pretty reprehensible.

OP here

The scene with her and Shae felt like it was setting Ros up for... something. But now in retrospect, it just feels like thwarted foreshadowing.

I wish Ros had died a martyr, instead of just another example of the "Dead sex worker" cliche/trope/statistic. In her death, she was just a whore, and that's what she'll be remembered for. Not for being cunning, not for rising swiftly through the hierarchy of the Kings Landing underground, or for having a big heart... She's now just pigeonholed as the "Dead Whore," when she was so much more than that.

Ros did die a martyr, and exactly because she was trying to help Sansa. The conversation Littlefinger and Varys have in the throne room immediately before you cut to Ros' murder scene spelled that out---Littlefinger letting Varys know how [she] had been a "bad investment" so he "gave her" to someone who "wanted to try new things." The only things you saw Ros do before her murder that would have made Littlefinger deliver her to be killed were sharing information with Varys and Shae, and part of it was telling Shae not to trust Sansa with Littlefinger.

Agreed it was so disappointing, she didn't have to live but man could she have gone out in a better way?

It was some lazy ass writing because the showrunners had written themselves into a corner with their OC.

I wish that she had at least died as a result of some choice of her own instead of just as Littlefinger's pawn.

What's the point of St Sebastian being here? I mean, I appreciate the mancandy he always brings, but it seems a little out of place.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't see the resemblance? Ros is in the *classic* St Sebastian pose.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This then invites the question, is there any particular reason Ros is in the classic St. Sebastian pose?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-17 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
It would imply she's a martyr...for something.

yeah they really couldn't have tried any harder to telegraph that one

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If Littlefinger had tied her up, shot her full of arrows because Ros was trying to help Sansa, then I would have loved the visual parallel. But in this context, I don't get it either. They visually telegraphed it really hard, but I don't know why they felt the need to. Her death seemed pointless... she wasn't a martyr standing up for any cause, she was just meat to be used up and thrown away.

Looked like a crass 'but-aren't-we-artistic' wink to the audience to me, no more meaning than that. To me it really contributed to the grossness of that scene.

crass is the right word tbh

yeah I'm not commenting on *why* they did it, just that they did. My first thought was, honestly, that it was because St. Sebastian's death scene is usually seen as "sexy" and they wanted her death to be sexy too.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I see the resemblance. It's just... weird. I can't quite put my finger on why I feel that way, though.

He seems awfully nonchalant about having been shot

Exactly how I feel, OP.

Ros wasn't bad for feminism. The way the show used Ros was bad for feminism.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
was she shot in the crotch?
