What's your favourite film soundtrack?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's the original Wicker Man soundtrack, I love that kind of traditional folk music and it's just used so wonderfully in the film.

I love film soundtracks! That is a great one. It was reissued on vinyl a few years back and I really wanted to buy it. I wanted to buy it for my old roommate in Nashville, cause that's his favorite movie, but it was pretty expensive and I didn't have a job at the time and eh rambling. GREAT SOUNDTRACK

Some of my favorite soundtracks/scores right off hand:

+ Donnie Darko (probably one of the best uses of music in a movie I've ever seen, that opening scene totally blew me away the first time I saw it, and the score is also perfect -- too bad the Director's Cut fucked it up)

+ Barry Lyndon

+ Sophia Coppola is great at using music in films, in both Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette (people complaining that the songs were all from the 80s missed the whole point of her obviously drawing a parallel between the "greed is good" 1980s and the excess wealth of French nobility in the 1780s) Also Marie Antoinette has THE BEST TEASER TRAILER OF ALL TIME (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxc2TqBYSh4)

+ Suburbia -- this is a pretty shitty movie with non-actors playing most of the roles but the score (the punk songs in it are alright I guess) and the soundtrack really is crappy but it fits the movie very well. This movie is also a good example of how shitty the 80s (especially the early 80s) were. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hknSRlqYz-A)

+ Nausicaa -- Favorite Jo Hisaishi soundtrack (SO MUCH SYNTH YES)

+ Castle of Cagliostro -- OH MY GOD FAVORITE ANIMATED MOVIE SOUNDTRACK FOREVER. My favorite track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsRu3g_gKPM (the opening song is pretty, too)

+ Rushmore

I'll probably remember more later, dang there are so many

Ooh yeah, I really liked the Rushmore soundtrack. I bow at the feet of Mark Mothersbaugh for his song choices and the tracks he made himself. <3

If you liked the Wicker Man soundtrack, you'll probably really like the Songcatcher soundtrack. And the movie, of course, which is criminally underseen (but not at all like the Wicker Man)- but it does have musicology and folk music nerdery, a wee little Emmy Rossum and her epic hair, and early 20th century lesbians!

Conquest of Paradise? West Side Story? Laputa (Castle in the Sky)? LotR? John Williams? Why are you making me choooooooose? D:

Edit: I can't find the version of the theme I'm thinking of - it is a little longer than the one I linked and the audio quality is better. :(

The old link is a live performance that I didn't like very much. The beginning of the concert is phenomenal though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVCdLi6FGVg&t=52m55s

Tron? TRON! Tron: Legacy, I mean.

Shakespeare in Love has a really great soundtrack. I love it to bits! I used to watch the movie for the soundtrack itself.

I quite like The Fountain's soundtrack too. Gives me the shivers.

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

If it is strictly film soundtrack, it would be Pan's Labyrinth OST. Some of the track is truly haunting.
But my favorite OST of all time is the Cowboy Bebop's OST.
