Fair enough. I don't know much about him as a person (although thanks to the comments here I am hearing some pretty nice things!) but I think his acting is exceptionally good, and as someone who never really got into Tony Stark/Iron Man in the comics (despite collecting other Marvel comics), his portrayal has made me really, really like Tony Stark, and opened up a whole new section of comic (and movie) fandom to me :) it is delightful. I came out of Avengers absolutely hooked!

This. Oh, so this. Despite having read comics since I was five--mostly Marvel, since I was a huge into Spider-Man--I never understood the appeal of Iron Man until Favreau & RDJ made their case with the first movie. I've since gone back and read everything I've been able to get my hands on, and loved almost all of it. (The 90's weren't very kind to Tony, but then, who were they kind to?) Most of my long-term favorite characters are going through kind of a rough patch recently, too--see nuDC, Superior Spider-Man, etc--so it's been really nice having a new favorite to discover.

Absolutely! I think that when I first got into comics Tony Stark in the comics was drawn in horrendous yuppie fashion and I just couldn't see the futurism stuff that made him awesome, I was in a deep on-again-off-again with X-Men series' (partially due to the fact that when I was a kid I could never get any comics in order of release so storylines got confusing fast, and partially due to the fact that Oh Some of The Plots Were Terrible as much as some were awesome) and ultimately Wolverine.

I think now that I can see in my minds eye the fluidity of movement and technology the films give to Tony, I find it a lot easier to enjoy the comics rather than getting hung up on daft things :)
