I have the same hair! Don't flat-iron them, but only brush them before washing them, they'll be more manageable that way.
I usually take strands of hair near my temples and tie them together at the back of my head. Sometimes I braid those strands beforehand.
You can also experiment with braids! There is really a lot you can do with them, either using all your hair or just parts of it, starting high or low...
