4. I know someone with a Polish family in-law and they drink vodka during meals.
7. Sometimes I hear that people add carbonated water to their wine and... Well, to each their own and all that.

Wine with carbonated water is really awesome when it's hot and you want something refreshing. It's pretty big in Germany where it's called sour Weinschorle (Wein = wine and -schorle is when you add carbonated water, though the rest of the time it's done with juice. If you want orange juice with sparkling water in a restaurant you order an Orangenschorle).

There is also a sweet version with lemonade instead of water which I prefer. A sweet Weinschorle is the only way you'll get me to drink wine.

* Everyone I know drinks Weinschorlen with white wine, but you can get them with red wine too.
