"Just because someone says Mother Gothel reminded them of their mother doesn't mean that their mother is evil and didn't love them."

I recognized some of my mother's passive-aggressive tendencies in Gothel, along with her way of shutting down arguments and making you feel like a bad person if you try to continue discussing it. However, my mom never did this to the extreme that Gothel did, and has always been loving, supportive, and encouraging. But the way this always seems to go is that if someone says Gothel reminded them of their mother, everyone assumes that their mother is just as bad as Gothel.
