It may be just me being tired and misunderstanding the secret, but I'm pretty sure some famous author fandoms do exist. I know people slash Shakespeare with Christopher Marlowe fairly often, and there's definitely Romantic poets fanfiction out there. Hell, I've read a legit published book where Lord Byron was a vampire.

Historical fiction fandoms are always pretty small though - the wank will probably come if the fandoms explode in size suddenly. I doubt that would happen, though.
