Illegal =/= morally reprehensible

Abortion is illegal in a lot of countries, doesn't mean it should be. Smoking pot is illegal in a lot of countries, doesn't mean it should be. Drinking alcohol was illegal at some point in U.S. history, and still is in some Muslim countries. And so on. There's also plenty of things that are legal, but not necessarily right.

Laws are only worth something if they are actually supported by their people, and once you have a critical mass that no longer supports certain legislation, change is needed. The fact that there's so much discussion about copying data, is because it's legislation that is not supported by a lot of people.
