If your friend is anything like me, they really do still want to talk to you. Reminding them of that (directly, not through f!s) might be a really good thing to do. I'm totally projecting, but I've waited so long to respond to a good fandom friend of mine that I doubt he wants to hear from me now. But if he contacted me again, I'd be really happy, and I would try harder to stay in contact because I miss him. So it's very possible that your friend is in a similar position.
