Re: Cutting yourself.
(Anonymous) 2013-05-21 04:08 am (UTC)(link)I once had a doctor tell me a story about a cutter he knew. He told me she often cut for attention, and then started removing bits of the ends of her fingers and toes for attention. Finally, he said, she stabbed herself in the heart 7 times until she died. I wanted to ask him "Do you think she did that for attention?"
Hell, one of the times I tried to suicide the doctor immediately told my dad and the students following him around that because I hadn't taken all the pills in the house, so I obviously just wanted attention and wasn't really trying to kill myself. At the time, I took it as him telling me to try harder next time.
Small children stamp their foot for attention. This sort of thing is called a cry for help. It's unfortunately often ignored because people, including medical professionals, think people aren't serious. The casual way you're talking encourages this line of thinking, that most of the time it's just kids getting a bit out of hand the way kids do and nothing to really worry about.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-21 09:29 am (UTC)(link)But I can also totally understand that this is probably not the forum for it, and that sometimes things which work very well in real life are very difficult to translate properly.
