Re: Tumblr & Suicides Post

TW: Suicide attempts.

Speaking as someone who's actually made attempt to kill themselves in the past, if you're actually going to do it you're not going to run out and post on Tumblr about how you're going to do it. It feels very much like an impulse action. The thoughts can last a long time, but the actual desire to action may come or go in minutes. These kids may be depressed or have a mood disorder that includes depression--although that may be generous to them, I don't know them and won't say they don't--but if they are actually, genuinely intending to attempt suicide, I sincerely doubt they are going to post about the real thing for followers or likes.

Plus it's not going to really help them. They need to find someone to talk to if they're genuinely contemplating suicide. If people see one of their friends might kill themselves, they should try and get them to seek help or offer themselves as an ear, not just friggin hit 'reblog' with a 'GUYS QUICK FOLLOW THIS PERSON.' Ugh.

Plus the people who talk about it and full well know they're not going to do it and idealize it? Please stay the fuck away from me.
