"Learn how to Google" is a perfectly appropriate response if a question is "What is ________?" because that's not a discussion question. It's the difference between asking, "Hey, what do you guys think about the women's roles on BBC Sherlock, especially Irene Adler?" and asking, "Hey, who's that actress who plays Irene Adler on BBC Sherlock?"

If something is straightforward and easily searchable, then just Google it, ffs. That way you don't waste peoples' time AND you get your answer a lot faster. Everybody wins!

Exactly. And for god's sake, if the question is something to which "Google it" might constitute a response, you should definitely look it up first or else how could you ever expect to follow a discussion on the topic?
