Uh, I wasn't trying to make her a posterwoman? I'm talking about definitions, that's all, I'm not sure if you're trying to change what I said or what. Gothel DID raise Rapunzel from infancy, took care of her, taught her, etc. I would say that makes her the mother.

But doing those things does not make a good mother, an okay mother, or even a bare minimum mother. Obviously she was using Rapunzel, obviously she had ulterior motives (even though I personally do think Goethel probably loved her, but that's not enough). but that doesn't not make her a mother figure for Rapunzel.

I am bothered only by the isolated event of Rapunzel's "you're not my real mother" referring to her discovery of her blood origins. I don't blame Rapunzel, hell, I cheered her standing up to her. but blood origins doesn't make a mother either, and we should hate Gothel because she was emotionally abusive to Rapunzel, not because she "wasn't her mother." And Rapunzel needs to free herself from her, not because she "adopted" her but because she's a bad person who hurts her.

What I'm trying to say is that the focus should be on her being a bad mother, not "not really her mother". Because that's what real people face, and why Goethel is such a realistic villain.
