That's the problem though, you're not going to get writers to start introducing female characters outside of romance until you stop watching shows where that is all they do.

I know we're all guilty of it at one time or another(because it's often hard to find good media where women aren't just shoehorned in to be a romantic interest) but in my opinion TBBT is a show that you can live without.

If I was only watching TBBT for the purpose of well portrayed girl geeks then I wouldn't be watching it, true. I have other shows for that. It brings other things to the table for me. Though after that farce of a D&D episode, those "other things" have been noticeably dropping in quality too.

You'd think a show that supposedly caters to geeks would actually research how to play an extremely well known RPG.

Lost Girl. You've got smart scientist geek, and quotes nerdy culture geek. It's not really a geek show beyond the sci-fi/fantasy genre though.

The Guild, although I think it's finished airing by now. I'm in the middle of watching it on Netflix.

Those are the only ones on my "currently still airing" list.

yeah, Lost girl is fantasy all right.

*fap fap fap

You've got to be kidding. Lost Girl? I just lost my lunch.

You shut your whore mouth! It's coming back. I know there will be another series. I know it.

It's true, TV execs could observe that no one's watching the show where the women are accessories and conclude that maybe shows should have three-dimensional female characters. On the other hand, they could just as easily conclude that they need to tone down the whole "female character" thing, given that pretty much all shows with female characters use them as accessories. Maybe I'm overly cynical, but I don't trust TV execs not to reach the latter conclusion.

I understand your feelings and I share them, the problem being how do we make change arise then? As long as massive amounts of people watch TBBT, they won't change the formula (money speaks louder then social change.) Protests can *sometimes* be effective, but it has to be that same massive amount of people and most really don't care to protest something like media gender roles (plus many protests just end in a company pretending like they care for a while, then continuing on with their bullshit when the controversy dies down.)

...I think I just made myself sad.
