Re: Fic progress

That's sort of how I've been writing my recent novel. I choose a scene I want to work on, and then I start it from the moment it interests me and not a line sooner. Then when I feel like it later I go back and add to the beginning. It's worked very well so far and keeps me from feeling bogged down and bored.

Man, if I were able to jump around on scenes, this fic probably would have been done so much sooner (and be better, because I KNOW I've already forgotten a few of the things that were in my head), I just...can't make myself jump ahead like that. Even if the in-between bits are awful and I end up starting over completely on them in the second draft, I HAVE to write them.

This is the first time I've been able to really do it, and I think it's mainly because I bought Scrivener, so I can see all the scenes laid out in order to the side and keep track of what's going on when. For my other novel, I HAD to write it in order because I felt like I had to write the first parts to know where the story would end up. Somehow, this time I'm managing to skip around and tell myself that I'll edit what ends up needing to change later. *shrug* It's a pleasing development.
