I just wonder if there are people out there who don't know how this relationship is going to end. (Not that I'm in any way saying you shouldn't ship it. I'm just wondering how much actual shock there's going to be when the precursor to Red Dragon happens.)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-22 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think everybody knows.

Up to a point, anyway. Because the show has already cleverly given the specific canonical precursor-to-Red-Dragon moment to another character, and situated it two years in the show's past. So whatever happens, it will likely happen differently from what book spoilers would have had us expect.

Yeah, but some people have never watched/read Red Dragon, or even Silence of the Lambs. If you just have the general knowledge that Hannibal is a cannibal who ends up in prison, well, you might not know.

I don't doubt it will happen differently (since they did already use that scene up), but it will still be just as mentally and physically scarring for everyone involved, lol.

I think there are enough people in fandom wailing "DON'T YOU KNOW HOW IT'S GOING TO END??" that even most fans who are coming into the franchise for the first time have figured it out. That won't stop everyone from erupting when it finally happens.

It's going to be amazing.

i'm pretty sure all bets are off in that regard. it's total au.

lecter/graham - the cornerstone of the show - is in itself fanfiction and a major deviation from the source material.

gaulmont doesn't have the rights to clarice and they've already killed her analogue, so my bet is that fuller's (optimistic, to put it kindly) design~ is for graham to stand as lecter's only foil through out all of his dreamed 7 seasons.

there's a plan to do red dragon and for lecter to be caught and wear the mask, yeah. but i wouldn't be surprised if there are massive changes in what happens before red dragon. part of me is sort of dreading these bitches cannibalizing another aspect of the lecter-starling relationship and pulling a, "lecter would never physically hurt~ will".

I have no idea who Starling is-- I'm totally new to the franchise, as it were, with this show. Ergo I have no background and will not write a character based on his interpretation in another canon. Like you said, it's total AU.

...good for you? idg why this is a reply to my comment. i couldn't possibly give less of a fuck about what you and other people do in fanfiction. by "these bitches" i meant fuller and the show's actual writers.

THEY definitely know who starling is.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-22 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
your "these bitches" reads as "the fandom" tbh

also you are really really pressed, maybe you need to take your meds or something

have no clue how i could have made it clearer. my comment was exclusively about fuller's plans for the show as laid out in interviews from start to finish.

touched by your concern.

See, and that's what I'm hoping for. I don't expect them to do it, for all the talk about how the show was fundamentally a love story, but I'll be a very happy camper if they go for it. And it already seems clear that I won't be even remotely alone.

i've grokked as much.

I don't think she was meant to be Clarice's analogue, since Fuller has said that if the show does continue he would like to introduce a "Clarice Starling type character" to help Will hunt Hannibal.

Fuller: I thought Anna did a wonderful job in the episode and was our Clarice Starling, but made it distinct from Jodie Foster, in her own way. That’s our The Silence of the Lambs episode, where we’re looking at the archetypes that have been previously established and said, “Yes, these archetypes are in our world, but not necessarily in the roles you’ve grown accustomed to.”

....I was just starting to like the show. Now I've lost all respect for it. Clarice is my favorite character ever and I adore her. Fuck that noise.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-23 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Imma guess it ends badly.
Possibly with a stew.
