Ooh, which ones? Nobody pinged me as seeming too Jewish at the time, but I'm open to changing that :)

Czes, Lua and Graham! It started out just due to their last names, but evolved pretty quickly into a proper 100% headcanon. I figure they're all different levels of observant, of course (Czes was raised Jewish but is functionally atheist, although maybe he reconnects with his heritage later down the line; Lua is very quietly religious and makes Ladd come to services on Yom Kippur; Graham is... Graham).

Hmmm. Okay, I get Czes and Lua, for sure. I don't think even Yom Kippur will save Ladd, though, but nice try XDD
Graham is a bit of a tougher sell for me, but hey, why not :)

I'm just waiting for the day there will be an *observant* Jew in media, but it looks like I can keep waiting >_> the few times I've seen that, they're often of the veeeeeery casual sort, which isn't really what I'm looking for.

See, that's funny, because Graham is the one I headcanon hardest. :P But maybe that's because he occupies a special dumb little place in my heart. That, and I think the image of him dragging his gang to shul on a whim is hilarious.

Ugh, yeah, if you find them please let me know. x_x I'm guessing anime might not be the world's best place to look, though. :P

I don't deny that it would be lovely and hilarious, he just wasn't my first thought. I think I may need to rewatch Baccano! with this in mind, though.

I wasn't even talking about anime - I mean, the most you get there is random Kabbalah being blatantly misused, and a few Jewish names.
I've seen some Jews in American shows, but it's mostly in order to say "oh, I'm Jewish" during the Christmas episode.
There's an Israeli show called Srugim, which features quite a few observant Jews, but it's more of a drama/romance, which isn't really my style.

I've basically given up and started writing my own fantasy world with heavily Judaism-inspired elements.

Well, sometimes there are canonically Jewish characters in anime! And by sometimes I mean once, to my knowledge. I've only seen a few episodes of Black Lagoon, but I have it on good authority that Benny is canonically a Jew. Not observant, of course. Whatcha gonna do.

Also, I would absolutely love to read your work. You may think I am just saying that but I am not. Please send me some if you ever finish it. @_@

Yeah, Black Lagoon is on my to-watch-eventually list.

It's actually a webcomic script I'm working on (I'm at chapter 6 so far). It's been about two years in development, and I doubt we'll start drawing for a few months yet (the plot is... complicated, so we decided to write it all out before we start drawing, because we're sticklers for continuity).
If you want to beta, we can always use another pair of eyes, though! XD
Otherwise, you'll have to wait.

I'm afraid I'm not useful for much more than copy editing, but if that's needed I'll try to help out! Let me know, okay?

no problem :) at the moment we're still fighting to transform the plot into a script and making sure it all makes sense XD

If you're not looking for anime in specific and can get ahold of Canadian media, try Being Erica. It's comedy-drama with time travel, and there is some focus on romance, so the genre may or may not be what you're into, but the main character is a practicing Jew, and it's not ignored or played for laughs.

oh wow anon, you just made my day. I HAVE to try and get my hands on this!
I don't mind romance, I just like it when it's along with time travel and excitement XD
