Re: Giving away a computer--how to delete everything first?

Just reformat the hard drive, taking it back to factory specs, and unless your mom's friend is some sort of IT computer person, she won't be the slightest bit able to dig through the computers brain to find whatever scraps of whatever might still be lingering.

Really, she'd probably also be safe just dragging everything to the trash and emptying it, because most people (especially older people) who aren't some sort of computer specialist aren't going to know how to recover that -- and if it's your mom's FRIEND, why would she?
