And this whole thread is why I am skeptical about autism in general...

Skeptical about what about autism?

Just the whole thing. I've always felt it was overdiagnosed, when every child who doesn't follow the herd is apparently autistic (and there's a damn SPECTRUM so you can tailor the diagnosis to fit any situation). You have your Rain Men who are in their own world.... and then you have this douchebag commenting upthread, who is dead set on being tragically autistic despite seeming extremely capable of carrying on a conversation.

You're missing the point really spectacularly here.

You'd be surprised. A lot of people with autism communicate perfectly fine via technology. Look it up.

What about people like me? I am a woman in her 20s with autistic tendencies. I repetitively clap my hands, repeat certain phrases over and over and spin around in circles. I have trouble looking people in the eyes and cannot really function well in society. I also have nearly genius level reading/writing comprehension skills, and can only really express myself on the computer (and even then I can make a dog's breakfast out of things).

Do I count as autistic, or am I just "not following the heard".
