I feel you OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
When I was around 16, I realized that it was probably for the best I never got my Hogwarts letter, because I'm also mentally disabled and I can't even handle public high school in the US, so a strict UK boarding school would have been a disaster for me.

I do wonder from time to time about wizards with disabilities. Not just mental either - last I checked Hogwarts didn't have any elevators.

(I was thinking about the physical disabilities thing recently for reasons and I ended up just figuring they enchanted wheelchairs to hover or something.)

SA

(Then again, they can regrow limbs and the like. Maybe there is no such thing as a permanent injury magic couldn't ~fix~)

Moody did have a prosthetic eye and limb. They can regrow bones that have magically disappeared, but not limbs.

Ooh yes, misremembered there. TY

No worries, you're welcome! :-)

(I wanted to add some positivity in this thread)

I dunno. I figure if Dumbledore was willing and able to set up all those things he did so Lupin could attend school as a kid, which was an actual thing with a bunch of danger, i can't see him not doing a similar thing for a physically disabled person. And sure the place doesn't have elevators, but they are wizards, surely there are a lot of different ways to handle that!

(would a wizard wheelchair even necessarily need to have wheels. If they can make brooms float and move around, could you do something similar to a chair?)

Yeah, I feel like magic alone would be sufficient for those with physical disabilities to get around fine. It would be a pretty terrible society if Hermione is able to take every class offered through time travel and yet someone in a wheelchair can't attend any.
