(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 11:16 am (UTC)(link)But I think that's logical - the concept being scarier than the actual gore. It's the same sort of horror as in zombie movies - the way the (normal) titans are mindless (human-)eating machines that just don't die unless you hit the right spot - that's a very classic thing.
To me, the violence in Baccano! is more cringeworthy than the grotesquery in SnK. Maybe because in one version, it's monsters and in the other humans (even though some of them are immortal) - I always found the thought of human beings slaughtering and torturing much more unsetteling than when monsters do it. But the uncannyness of monsters vs. the potential reality of serial killers is a matter of taste/opinion.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)I think it's insane to claim that everyone who can't watch SnK is exaggerating- different strokes. Vastly different strokes for vastly different folks. If there's a sound in my house, I'm going to go investigate. But if that sound might be.. a spider? Forget about it.
