... What kind of famous criminal? Because if it's serial killer or whatever, then I'd concerned, yes, but not necessarily about giving fandom a bad name.

If, however, you mean criminal as in 'dashing jewel thief' a-la Arsene Lupin or Catwoman, I'd be pretty much fine with this.

There's a nice cave in the mountains near my house, if you're interested in a secret lair. You're probably going to have to install some sort of heating, though; the only reason people don't live inside it, however temporarily, is because it's cold as balls as soon as the sun sets.

I think it might be more likely that the fandom connection would make you as the criminal look worse, or at least become a figure of amusement, rather than the other way round. "Mysterious criminal mastermind narrated fanfiction porn in their youth" - I can't see that headline working well for your mystique.
