Re: Transgenderism or whatever.

First, gender and sex are two different things.

Second, at the end of the day you don't have to get it you just have to not be an ass about it. Which you're kind of failing at doing, to be honest here. This whole post has a really obnoxious tone to it, which might not be on purpose because tone on the internet etc.

REALLY? how many jerks do you know would ask a thoughtful question about something they don't understand. They have also been looking at books to try and understand the issue. If that is what is considered being an ass then I don't know why people even bother.

So hey, I've been reading a lot of books and looking for people to explain but I just don't think black people are as smart as the rest of the races. I mean I get it that people want to be all PC, but now I've been assigned a partner and she's black and I'm afraid that I'm just not going to get a good grade because you know that she's just not capable of being that smart even if she told me she's fine and identifies as an intelligent person.

Just trying to be open and understanding here!

That's not even remotely the same thing and this is some high grade foolishness on your part.

da

This person should be comended for asking the questions and at least looking for some sort of understanding but what they posted here is possibly the least open minded and most jerky way of phrasing. They're being an ass about it.

DA.

I don't think so. This is exactly the way I felt about the whole transgender and gender vs. sex issue myself before I roomed with a trans man in college. He was really helpful in explaining things to me. Newsflash, but sometimes there are things that just need to be SAID without all that bullshit PCness and sugarcoating. The OP was blunt about it. Nothing wrong with that.

You also have to consider the fact that this is the Internet and tone doesn't exactly translate well. I can't count the number of times I've sounded like a complete asshole when in my head I'd been nothing but sincere.

That right there ought to tell you something...

No, not necessarily. I think everyone on the Internet has experienced this at some point.

I tend to sound rather sharp when I write, but in real life I'm probably one the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Tone simply does not translate well online.

I don't know about you but I personally cannot read the following as anything but offensive:

Is this another PC thing like Asperger's where some people try to play it up like it's a blessing/superpower instead of a mental disorder, and that everyone who thinks otherwise deserves to die or whatever?

Really? That's just tone, not content? Is that merely "blunt but sincere" or doesn't it tell you that the OP wants to appear sincere in their quest for understanding but deep down basically believes that they're right?

Yeeeeeah. I can generally tolerate people stumbling over topics they're not familiar with, but that line shoved the whole post from "I don't really get this and could use some help understanding" to "I don't get this and think it's stupid, but try and prove me wrong anyway." I think fewer people would be quite as bristly had that line alone been nixed.

Whether the OP was intending to be sincere or not doesn't really change the fact that what they said was pretty offensive, and people have a right to be offended by it.
