I pointed out that it's problematic (which it is and if OP wants to find out more about it using the internet it might be better for them to find that out sooner rather than later before they get dog piled) and then mentioned a couple of examples that would (hopefully) give OP food for thought and help them understand the underlying issue better?
That's what I was going for, in any case. I think it's commendable that OP tries to learn without upsetting their transgender partner. Back when I was introduced to transgender theory it helped visualizing what I considered to be "man" and "woman" by using a table that listed different characteristics and then asking myself why I considered a person with XYZ to be male when a person with XZ characteristics was, to me, a woman, but YZ was male again. That helped me better understand the sex/gender issue and that was what I was trying to re-do for OP with the second part of my comment.
