Re: Whatever

OP.

By whatever I meant "or whatever term you use". I keep on hearing things like cis and and fetuma and matufe and transfag and transexual and tryke and so on. I have no idea which is even proper/applies.

Anyway, I do apologize for that. I should have been more specific or left it out entirely.

TW: trans slurs

Generally speaking:

"She is a transgender woman" and "She is a trans woman" are acceptable. "She's a transgender" and "She's a tranny" are not. "Trans men," "trans women," and "trans* people" are acceptable. "Trans*" is usually used as a catch-all for transgender, transsexual, and other fluid gender/sex identities (the asterisk is a wildcard symbol). "Transsexual" has some uncomfortable implications for a lot of people, which is why "transgender" is used widely instead. Don't call people "transsexual" unless that particular individual has specified themselves to identify that way, and that it's what they prefer to be identified as.

"Cis" refers to people who aren't trans*; ie, folks whose gender and sex match up peacefully. You, OP, are cis. Most people are cis. Being cis is not a bad thing, nor does it make you unable to gain some understanding about transgenderism or sympathize with trans* folks' struggles. Trans* folks are not cis. These things are mutually exclusive. (Off-topic, but "cis-sexism" refers to a particular brand of sexism that ignores the existence and/or validity of trans* people.)

The rest are not yours to use under any circumstances.
