I agree with all of this. You've described the fan culture I think of as creepy and invasive. Actually, worshipful seems like a good word too? The magazines/fans build the people up to unreal standards and it creates the desire to see them fall down.
I guess I just don't associate this behaviour with the rpf I've read at all, for whatever reason. I'm not really into it though, so maybe the majority of RPF writers are going through Harry Styles' garbage looking for what flavour of pizza pops he likes for *accuracy*. What do I know.
