Me too OP. :D

All the people in the fandom would probably appreciate it if you would stop pushing buttons.

But I also can't believe they don't realize they're other fandoms' laughingstocks. By which I mean I find it hard to believe that don't realize. Then again, if you have a tin hat on already, maybe it's easy to ignore anything you don't want to acknowledge.

But all the people outside the fandom want it to keep going cause it's hilarious.

We all get our turns. Zutarians and Avatar. The entirty of the Homestuck and MLP fandoms. The shippers in Buffy back in the day. (though I wasn't as involved outside of anything but the fandom at the time, somebody must have been laughing at us, we were ridiculous)

At first I read that as "I love pairing up both the J2 tinhats and the Destiel shippers" and I thought, well, that's ONE way to resolve their differences.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's certainly the way fandom operates! XD

hmm i always thought they were well aware of how other fandoms perceive them

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The tinhats and Destiel extremists are the laughing stock of our fandom too, not just other fandoms. There are normal Supernatural fans, I swear.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
So we keep being told.

When do we get to see these mythical 'normal' fans?

The normal folk like to stay away from teh crazies (and I'm talking as someone who spent a year in the fandom, sticking around the "normals").

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any established fandoms that don't have at least one cringe-inducing group that other fandoms (or their own fandom) laugh at? Most have some rpf shippers or crusaders for a cause and only the newer fandoms seem devoid of those. And it's just a matter of time before unstable fans find them.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised you think other fandoms are wasting that much time on you guys.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
This! I'm in fandom to ship my own choice in eye candy, not egg on somebody else's pointless ship war.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Come on, they're not that bad. Excluding the people who have to add J2 or Destiel commentary on every post they can find, or people who refuse to tag, they're not that bad. They stay on their sides of Tumblr, I stay on mine.

Every fandom has a group that everybody sees as less, even if they are defined by the actions of the vocal few. I highly doubt that other fandoms are focusing that much on the Supernatural fandom, anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
the fandom was around long before tumblr became the choice to hang out.

the world does not revolve around tumblr and there was life before it.

(Quite normal in SPN standards) Destiel shipper here.

Can't say for the extremists, but we do know that our ship/fandom has a bad name and is the laughingstock. We accept it and, at least in my case, try to avoid declaring aloud what we actually ship and do, because asshats like you want to "wind us up" and fill our askboxes with stupid shit.

You know, whatever floats your boat and so on, but I think it's a tad pathetic that "ship whatever you want to ship" comes with double standards here.

agreed

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
the double standards in this comm regarding big fandoms vs small weird fandoms are really strange.
Anyway, I think people just like hating on easy targets. That's how I see this secret. Either that or the secret maker tends towards more delusional shipping and assumes everyone else does to.

So last year (from early January to when I went to watch The Hobbit in December), I was in the SPN fandom.

You know, I didn't hear a huge lot about the fandom before I got into it, and only found out about the crazy involved after I joined. I think you over estimate how much people outside the fandom give a shit about it. Everyone else is too busy in their own fandoms to give much of a care as to what new batshit SPN is doing.

I only take notice now because I still have SPN fans on my flists on both LJ and Twitter.

They can be their own fandom's laughing stock too, you know.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
They both made me wish for Dean/Benny to somehow become canon this past season. Can you even imagine the wank that would have caused? We'd all be sitting here with burnt-out eyeballs, still F5ing. Plus, it would have been really, really hot.

Talking as someone from outside the fandom (even though I watch the show) I don't think they're other fandoms laughing stock but that they're considered as pretty obsessive and therefore considered as a bit crazy. Though the fandom is HUGE so what else can you expect... sorry but the HP fandom back in the day was pretty crazy too, SPN fans didn't start anything new.

But yeah every rps fandom has its tinhats and every tv show has its ship wars(though I've noticed that Destiel shipper are pretty intense...), that's just the way it is.
