Your situation is atypical. I get that it must be irritating to come across that, but in most cases anti-depressants do only a small part of the work. All kinds of people don't have anything to work through but they do have to work on modifying their behavior.

I find it strange that you're being told that you will be on medication for the rest of your life. As first a psychiatric patient and later a milieu therapist on a mood disorders wing of a psychiatric hospital, I've never once heard of a situation like yours.

...Uh, I'm the one who's saying I'll be on medication for the rest of my life. Because it works really well for me, and I don't see the problem with sticking with something that works.

...You've never heard of a mood disorder/depression being caused by a chemical imbalance in someone's brain?

Admittedly, I'm bipolar* as hell, but it wasn't my behavior that was causing what was going on with me, it was a chemical imbalance in my brain. Once I was on meds that worked? I was fine.

*At least, that's what they'd settled on last time they said anything about it to me
