I watched the films and adored them at the tender age of 5 or 6, then spent the better part of my adolescence scratching my head wondering why none of the female characters in anything ever seemed to be as cool as Ripley or Vasquez. Wasn't it normal to be like Ripley or Vasquez? When I grew up I was going to be like them.
