I'm so glad that Jimmy is taking over for Jay. Because I love both Jimmy Fallon and Craigy Ferg and now I won't have to choose between them! I can watch Fallon at 11:35 and Craig at 12:35.

I'm not from the US and all we used to get was Leno, who I actually like the best. Why all the hate for him? He's much better than scripted Letterman. Conan is good too but a little smug at times. CraigyFerg gets on my nerves (and I'm Scottish!). Fallon is ok but nothing special. The others I haven't watched.

And sorry OP, just realised you don't like people bashing them. I'm just curious why all the hate for Leno when he's the funniest for me. I still do watch the others if I'm interested in their guests.

The Leno hatred stems from his involvement in the way NBC pushed Conan off The Tonight Show so they could give it back to Leno. (At least, that's why I hate him, anyway.) He also pushed Letterman off of NBC the first time he got The Tonight Show. (Originally, Johnny Carson was going to give it to Letterman, who had been hosting Late Night at the time.)

That's not what happened with Conan. Google it and you can actually view the contract he signed. NBC made a mess of the whole thing and didn't handle it well at all, but Leno didn't push him off or do anything anything wrong at all. He was vilified in the media, but it was all bullshit.

Leno is to blame because he didn't preserve the integrity of The Tonight Show. It may not be in any contract, but talk shows like those have a hierarchy to them and everyone knows that. When you're done, you pass it down and then leave. What did Leno do? Okay, he wanted a primetime show. NBC's fault for adhering to his wishes. His crashed and burned, and he ruined the ratings not just of Conan's Tonight Show but of the local news. Lead-ins for shows like those are VERY IMPORTANT.

Throughout the NBC mess, all he cared about was his own ass. Conan didn't want to move the Tonight Show to 12 partly because that would've moved Fallon to 1 AM, a time wherein no one watches. Conan = thinking of the franchise, of his fellow talk show hosts

Leno = thinking of ways to keep himself on the air

And then Leno had to go and say at the end of the debacle: "Both Conan and I got screwed"

Conan was left without a show, his dream ripped away from him. Leno got the Tonight Show back. How the fuck was he screwed?

I've never understood all the hate for Leno, but I'm pretty biased. I live where all the talkshows are filmed and pretty much everyone I know (including me) have met Leno and say he's the nicest celebrity and just an all-around nice guy.

He may be the nicest guy irl, but on tv he comes across to me as a really, very smug asshole. I don't like tv persona.

He may be a nice guy but he's a really well-known conniving SOB in the business. He actually hid in closets just to get dirt on NBC executives when they were thinking of whether to give the Tonight Show to Leno or Letterman. He has admitted that in interviews, BTW. He's just all-around shady.

I miss feeling like this :( Jimmy Fallon just doesn't do anything for me and I lost so much respect for Conan over the Team Coco thing. He was made to look like a victim and really he had agreed to everything years before. I think that was around the time I started losing all interest in late night talk shows :(

If he was made to look like a victim, that wasn't his fault. He didn't make his fans and celebrities rally for him -- they did that on their own. In fact, NBC even called him to ask him why he was doing that shit, and he told them that he really wasn't. Why the fuck would you lose respect for him when all he wanted to do was keep the Tonight Show at 11:30 because it'd been that way since the beginning?
