Wait....how is female dehumanizing?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you're not even willing to call her a "woman".

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
But don't feminists get all upset with "woman" because of the "man" part?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
No. No, they don't.

It can be, if you're purposely saying it to single them out for some reason in a negative way.

Like anon mentioned further down, it's reminiscent of talking about animals. I don't mind female as an adjective, because it's an accurate adjective, but using it as a noun for people ("Females are/aren't...") makes it really hard for me to believe the person fully respects the women they're talking about.

I suggest you get your facts straight. You are an animal; humans are animals. There is nothing wrong w/that; it's a scientific fact. People using female has nothing to do w/respect or lack of it for females/women. Get over yourself.

Being an animal doesn't negate the numerous distinctions we make between human animals and others. If I find the use of a term disrespectful because it makes me feel dehumanized (a concept often mentioned regarding the treatment of humans in ways that may be perfectly acceptable to treat other animals), there is not a thing wrong with my objecting to its use.

You can't call women females, because Trans* will get up in a huff about your transphobia. Or something stupid like that.

a) We have a term for female humans. b) When someone adresses both women and men and they use men and females...doesn't that seem weird to you?

I've never heard anyone say men and female. Men and women, or male and female, but i've never heard anyone mix them up like that. It seems weird only in that we hu-mons tend to link similar words.

*shrug*

I'm not insulted by female. People can make *anything* insulting via context, tone, or overall asshattedness.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky you. There are people around who call men 'men' but women are just 'females', no better than a cow or something. The derision is usually dripping off them.
