Do you remember ever having crushes on teenage/young adult characters/actors when you were a kid, but now, you're older than those characters were when you had a crush on them, and seeing reruns of those shows or rewatching those movies weirds you out because you remember having a crush on them at the age they were then, but now they're waaaaay too young for you?

I always get a little squirmy with Randy Taylor from Home Improvement and Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World, and then Marty McFly and Ferris Bueller. Sure, their actors are older than I am, but when I watch reruns from over a decade ago, all I can remember is being 12 and all ga-ga for these middle/high-school aged kids.

Rudolph from The Little Vampire. definitely awkward. I can't even watch that movie because If feel so awkward thinking he's hot now.

The other is Rufio from Hook. Except Dante Basco is older than me, pretty sure. So, less creepy?

No idea about the other actor.

Link from Legend of Zelda, specifically his Oracle of Ages/Seasons incarnation. Though it doesn't so much weird me out as make me laugh at how much my tastes have changed.

Oh yeah. Completely with you on Shawn Hunter, and Topanga was one of my first almost-crushes. Also, Yakko Warner.

Just make an AU where the age difference makes sense.

I've been considering making Teahousestuck (Whorestuck?) but there's a homestuck parody of everything so I'm not sure the world needs that.

Yeah. It's weird and I always start analyzing it too much and wondering if it counts as pedophilia.

What's almost as weird is watching something that came out when I was a kid, but I never saw it then, and recognizing which characters I know I would have had a crush on if I'd seen it at the right age.

Most of my anime guy crushes were teens-- as in, 12-13 years old. Luckily one of them "grew up" so I don't feel weird about that one, but the rest? awks.

Luckily now I can appreciate them as characters, and my affection's more motherly, I guess. At least they're cartoons. But I totally get you on Shawn.

It's funny, because it sort of evens out. Like, most my d-crushes when I was younger, were older. Now a lot of them are younger. So now it sorts of evens out, and it wouldn't really be awkward crushing on them, since they're generally all in the legal spectrum.

I sort of always had the opposite problem. I crushed on characters who were much, much older, and only about now am I at the age where they wouldn't have gotten me really funny looks or assumptions that they were my father.

(And honestly, when I was 20 I was dating a guy who was 44, so I kind of know about that sort of thing... although it only happened the once in real life, and happened CONSTANTLY with fictional characters.)

It's not so much a crush, but I used to read a hell of a lot of smut fic for Gundam Wing (and its fifteen-year-old pilots) when I was... what, thirteen or fourteen? Now, I'm over ten years older than them and it's just... weird and creepy and massive amounts of Do Not Want.

Shit, even Zechs and Treize are younger than me, Zechs by a rather decent amount.

This has happened with me. Luckily all with animated characters, so it doesn't seem as bad.

I've basically moved on from all of my childhood crushes, though, and the one I haven't moved on from grew up, so it's not a huge deal. 'xD

Luckily, the majority of my fictional crushes have been way older than me, so I've still got a while before I need to worry about that. I am coming up on the same age as Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh, though. That'll be weird.

Yup. I just think that its like a hangover crush. I'm over it, but the feelings of youth still linger.

I was in love with Gundam Wing when I was 14 or so and I don't know if I had crushes, really, but I shipped them hardcore. Now I'm almost 30 and they're perpetually 15 and remembering the fics I used to read... and write... about 15 year old boys just creeps me out lol

I used to have a crush on Roy in Fire Emblem: Fuuin. He's what, 15, 16 in canon? This was of course, 10+ years ago, so now it's like.... wow.

The tribe, both Jack and Lex... Rewatching parts of The Tribe a couple of years ago was just awkward...

wait. waaaait.

there's legit a (presumably) gadgeteer-type with bright-red hair named Jack in The Tribe?
