(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)I get gnawing hunger, too. It's because for years I progressively ate more every time I ate and my appetite is huge now. In order to not be hungry, I have to eat about 1500 calories, which is almost as many calories as I should be eating in a day. And that's after more than a year of actively shrinking my appetite under medical supervision.
My case is a bit on the extreme side (though not as much as you might think), but most people in western countries have a much larger appetite than is healthy for them and it's growing all the time. Appetite and hunger are two different things but the body and brain interpret them identically.
