Origin of 'mustard' seems hazy, though apparently it was known slang as far back as the 1870's.

But then, i only did about two minutes of looking.

Yeah, there's a lot of links to mustard being used as 'To be energetic and full of zest' which explains the term 'Keen as mustard' but it's the cutting part I'm trying to place.

It exists as a term, I know that, I just can't find out where it comes from. My theory is still that it's originally from muster. Will get back to you.

This is fun. I like etymology.
