Actually, they aren't wrong. Fanmail doesn't work well since, as often as not, people miss it and reblogging only works well if both people are already following each other since it's amazingly easy to miss a relog/reply [not to mention the tiny character counts allowed for replies]. It's next to impossible for more than two people to be actively involved in a discussion as well.

All of those things? Work just find on LJ, or similar blogging services...Because that's what they were made for. Tumblr? Not so much, it was made to basically share pictures or information without having a discussion about it.

Actually, I regularly have conversations with friends every day by using fanmail. Long messages than the ask box allows. Some can miss the message when they are on mobile, but it can still be used.
