Oh, snap.

The question was so passive aggressive, it really deserved that answer.

Tumblr has a massive problem with reading comprehension (and fact checking, and 'he who fights monsters', and fandom>hipster elitism, etc..) so it's good to see someone call 'em out on their bullshit.

Ugh, if I had a dollar for every 10k+ notes post that came across my dash with something factually inaccurate/musing even though the answer's out there...

And the worst part is that there's pretty much nothing you can do. It's not like a thread where you can jump in and everyone sees it; you're just sort of stuck shouting into a void. I think I tried once before giving up.

Thank goodness it's not just me. I haven't been on there long but I keep wondering what the hell is up with people that they have the reading comprehension of a first grader.

Wait people took that as Neil Gaiman being mean or something?

I read that when he posted it, and he started the damn answer the same way as he was asked, heck he even answered the person, just not with a new answer (because why should he?)...

People are fucking babies.

Oh my Gaiman!

I still remember seeing him read on Halloween one year. This guy crouched down in the aisle and kept (loudly) snapping pictures just one after the other while Gaiman read his chapter. At one point he ended a sentence and in the same breath said, "Stop that." And went right back to reading. That was it.

The next day on his journal, he apologized for being so brusque. Bless.

Yeah, I don't even know. That didn't come off as rude to me at all.

A while ago there was a secret making fun of Gaiman's tumblr followers for asking dumb questions and a lot of people thought that was mean.

I'm not seeing the question person getting told here. Am I missing something, or is a tactful "LURK MOAR" somehow considered harsh?

wevs though. I also wish folk would do their research, or go through some backlogs, before asking things that have already been answered. Otherwise I get lazy vibes.

For the record, the person subsequently apologized, and Gaiman accepted the apology graciously, even apologizing himself for "making an example out of you."

I just went to the link at the bottom of that answer, and now I am laughing uncontrollably because HOLY SHIT, NEIL GAIMAN WROTE SMEAGOL/GOLLUM SLASH.

I was going to read the article before, but I'm so reading it now because that's crazy!

HAHAHA I KNOW. I died. Twice. Then reread it and died again.

I think that paragraph is my favorite thing I've ever read.

Neil Gaiman gets a mega-ton of really stupid or lmgtfy type questions. I guess he's probably used to it being famous and all but I don't know how he replies to them time after time without losing his shit completely. It's made me think that maybe he is the most patient writer on earth or his tumblr followers are the dumbest people on earth.
