You're supposed to be scared by (essentially) the angels jumping out and shouting "Boo!". I mean, yeah they send you back in time or whatever. But the reason they're supposed to be scary is the flashing lights and how fast they move and appear.

Which... loses its charm after the first couple of times you see the episode and you know where all the "Boo!" parts are.

The first time I watched it, I was bored. :(

Blink was 100% derivative. And not even done very well.

I mean, yeah they send you back in time or whatever.

I dunno; as a woman, being sent back in time sounds pretty damn scary. And, hey, imagine being a Black person sent back to pre-Civil War US, or a Jew sent to 1940's Europe in a country controlled by the Nazis...

Honestly, I think it would have been great if they had actually explored that idea that, ya know, a lot of history hasn't been terribly a kind to a lot of people, and a lot of types of people would kinda be screwed if they got sent back far enough...

E.T.A.: TO say nothing of people (like myself) with certain medial conditions that would pretty much leave them screwed if they went back in time. In same cases, it wouldn't even have to be very far...

they just send you to a random point in history? That sounds kind of fascinating actually. Terrifying too but for the purposes of fiction that is really cool.

I think it's random.

And, yeah, it's fascinating... if you don't have to worry about being treated like property or dying cuz you're not getting your meds.

If I could travel there and come back when I wanted, yes. Being stuck there? Hell to the no.

that makes it a really effective and scary ability though. If you could just roll with it, it wouldn't be scary

your thinking kinda focused. You show up in a place where your money is useless, your friends and family are all gone, you probably don't speak the language, and have no idea what's going on. Even history majors aren't going to know much more then some basic facts, it's not like they'll teach you how you'd go about making a living in your new time. And disease!

Short of immortals like the doctor who've already been and can thus easily re-adapt, there's nobody who's going to be "okay" during this, unless they were sent back within a very tiny window.

I think that's technically true. But the show never explored that. So like it's a theoretically outcome, but it's hard for me to see it as a concrete consequence because all the people sent back in times are like "it wasn't so bad! :D :D :D :D"

Yeah, everyone who got sent back, except MAYBE for the handful trapped in that building in The Angels Take Manhattan, seemed to have a good life in the past - maybe even better than the ones they had in their original time.

Oh dear. I never even though about all of that before. I'm a queer woman of color with epilepsy, so unless I get sent back twenty minutes and a hundred feet from when and where I am or something, I'm probably going to die horribly.

I'd love to go back in time.

See, this is what I want to say, and then the reality comes back to bite me in the ass. I'd probably get my sorry ass killed in the past. God knows I'm enough of a klutz right now.

No, you're supposed to be scared because there is something behind you. It is coming for you, and it won't get tired or distracted. You can't argue with it, or fight it. It doesn't need to rest, but you do. It is always there, always coming, and it will GET you when you're not looking.

I'm glad for you that you didn't find it frightening, but it's hardly just about jumping out and yelling, "Boo!"

if you want something that does that well, read House of Leaves, man. Literary merit is debatable, but it had me twitching and looking over my shoulder for days.
