Ugh, no luck finding this song either.

I started wondering though, if "Love Kills" was the band/album name, so I did a search along those lines... no luck, but I did turn up a musical by that name. Still couldn't find this particular song, but of those songs I did find from that musical, the vocals sound really similar. If this fits the time-frame of when you got the song, maybe it's from there?

The first song in particular has parts (the guitar? bass?) that sound a lot like that style.

Okay, the only song I can't absolutely rule out is

Everything else I'm pretty sure wasn't it, either because I found them and listened to them and they're definitely not it, or they're sung by female vocalists

It might not be from this after all OTL

But thank you anyway! The "small indie band" hypothesis is sounding more and more likely.

Dang, guess that's that. =S Well, "Love Kills" not being the title of the song was unlikely, I suppose - given it's in the lyrics and all!

Speaking of which, I attempted to transcribe the lyrics myself without looking at/being influenced by your version, and there were a few differences. Still didn't find anything using my transcription, but thought I'd post it here if you wanted to check it out anyway:
