Doesn't that happen in Hannibal, actually...? Er, I mean, the movie (great, that's never gonna get confusing).

Heh, yeah, that was the basis of the joke ;)

Well, now I feel sheepish.

Water is people. (Bryan Fuller said it)

What do you mean "could"? It would. You could ask for a glass of water with a twist of lime and he would find a way to slip in something human in there.

Though I got to give to you, the dishes he makes look amazing.

NGL, watching this show has changed my eating habits. I reach for a tortilla chip and remember Hannibal saying, "I'm very careful about what I put into my body," and then stop my hand.

(And then I remember he's fictional and a psycho and eat as much as I want. But I still imagine his disappointment with me!)

There must be a community out there with Hannibal as their fitspiration.

Thats kind of sweet in a way <3

i realize this is a secret, but still, i'm vaguely creeped out by the hannibal fandom

(Anonymous) 2013-06-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
The amount of people who don't realize Hannibal is actually a murdering villain just astounds me. I'm not bothered by the people who find the horror of it all fascinating, but the rampant character decimation bugs the shit out of me.

That's really only a fraction of a fraction of the fandom. And the rest of the fandom is quick to pounce on those who call Hannibal an "anti-hero." (Usually with a, "He's a cannibal serial killer who serves unsuspecting people Humans for dinner. On what planet does that make him an anti-hero, you twit?!")

because of the woobification of Hannibal or because of people saying the food looks good/making cannibalism jokes? Because the latter is 99.99% just silliness. The Hannibal fandom is incredibly crack-filled and silly, is all. I see a lot of people saying that Hannibal fans creep them out and idk it's just weird to me. Do horror movie fans creep you out?

Making murder and cannibalism jokes might be "just silliness" to you, but to me they are no better than rape jokes.

Unless those too are ~*incredibly crack-filled and silly*~ to you.

You're a fucking idiot. There is no such thing as cannibalism culture.

Violence culture, you imbecile.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-01 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
woobification, mostly. that, and people shipping Will/Hannibal like it's ~~romantic~~ or something. the jokes themselves don't bother me (hell, they are occasionally really funny)

and i'm generally creeped out when people are fascinated by characters like hannibal (charismatic psychopaths) because this is either missing the whole point of the character, or a really good explanation of why similar things happen in RL (although it's hypocritical because i sometimes like that kind of characters myself). plus i really can't stand on-screen violence (as in, violence that's there for someone's enjoyment). but hey, YKINMK and all that.

Personally, I wouldn't touch anything that Hannibal gave me to eat, since even the water is people... but maybe you can try recreating dishes of his (without the people part) and pretend its him giving you the food? It might makes dishes more tantalizing and easier to eat.

No real point to this...

(Anonymous) 2013-06-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny how this always works, isn't it?

Attractive desirable or interesting characters come out of the woodwork displaying a quirk that is not desirable, (Cannibalistic (Hannibal), Psychopathic(Dexter), or Sociopathic (Sherlock) tendencies, rudeness to the point of it being a severe dysfunction (House), Even rapists (The comedian)) And fans also come out of the woodwork saying "I am ok with this"

I get that fantasy is not the same as reality, YKINMY, all that, I just wonder if there will ever be a taboo that cannot be made desirable or at least acceptable when taken with an attractive character.

Like, before Hannibal, when would the sentiment 'I might be ok with cannibalism' have gone this long into a thread without objection??

I wonder how much my lust for women would let me look past, and I've I'll ever be given the chance to test it.

watching Hannibal has made me want to do more fancy cooking for sure. It all looks so good... and it's supposed to, so I don't feel bad about it lol

And yet... still a better inspiration for getting into good food than Eat Pray Love.

Well, all of his meals are beautiful. Can't blame you on that one.
