Well, don't do that. You shouldn't do that. Don't Internet-stalk people or bands. I know it can be enjoyable or make you feel weirdly accomplished, but you shouldn't do it.

Ehh, that doesn't really seem too stalker-ish to me. It's a public location that was on an album cover, not a private home (or even a picture posted to a more personal location, like a band member's personal blog). Now, if you'd tried to use that information to triangulate where they lived or something like that... THAT would be weird. As it is, I think you're fine, OP.

Figuring out where it is wouldn't be weird

Going there physically and trying to find apartments near where it is kind of goes to a place that's at least a little weird

I agree. Even looking for apartments in the area isn't that bad. OP didn't say they were absolutely set on living there, and even then it's just a shop, it's not like it's their home.
It's just that natural fantasy of being close to something exciting, and as long as you're aware there are boundaries you shouldn't cross it's fine.

But then I've done shit like this, so maybe that's why I'm defending it :S

Transcription of secret 3

Someone on the last batch posted [underlined, pointing to picture of a previous secret] this secret.

And while I am not sure about who they are talking about I believe it is about that french band I am a fan of

It made me feel like a total creep

I am not into RPF, and selddom read fanfictions

But I have been what can be seen as "a stalker" to this one band.

They took theyr first album's cover picture in front of a shop

And through interviews and the use of google maps, I [underline] found it

It wasn't easy, the only things I had to begin were the city and the fact that there was a drugstore next to it.

I have even been to this shop myself, event though I live about 3 hours away by trains.

I haven't seen any members of the band there, but I still felt quite proud in a stalker-ish way.

I have even searched for apartments in this area, since I have to move to Paris net month anyway.

Sorry if I creep you out, OP from last batch!

I hope I'll never run into you!

Take it to comments?

You're like right on the fence there, OP...

Triangulating the location of the shop - presuming it's a public location - isn't all that bad. Overly invested, maybe, and a little sad, but hey, to each their own. Trying to find apartments in this area...um, I would recommend against using that sort of criteria to look for a place to live. It's...not invasive, at this point. Creepy, but not invasive.

But if I were you, OP, I'd suggest drawing a line here and slowly backing away if you can, because any closer/any more stalking and that's when you start entering invasive territory, invasive and true stalking. You can do better than that, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-03 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, if you're not seeking contact with the band members or impacting their lives in any way, I say do whatever makes you happy, OP! Now if you're following actual people or posting about what you've found online so others can put it to more stalkerish use, that's really not good...

Ehhh, at this point it sounds harmless, since you're not digging for personal info and such, but I'd advise against taking it much further. Also, you'll probably want to consider more criteria than that when making a decision about moving, but that's just me.

Stalking...is never a good idea, and as some people here have said, you're right on the fence.
