I never thought Konzen's affections were all that fatherly -- but to be honest, even if they had been, it's not like that would've stopped me from shipping them -_-b

That said, when it comes to squicks you often grow out of them (or simply get desensitized over time). Perhaps your fondness of Kanzeon/Goku is heralding the loss of your incest squick?

I ship Goku/Sanzo... so welp, no help here.

I never really thought Sanzo's affections were all that fatherly. I mean, he did save Goku, but I don't think he has paternal feelings towards Goku. Or vice versa. Goku's also like 500 years old in an 18 year old body. It all works.

I don't get a strong family vibe from Kanzeon/Sanzo or Sanzo/Goku tbh. (And I know Kanzeon and Sanzo are related but incest isn't exactly new to Saiyuki. That said, I don't ship it.)

I'm with you on Sanzo/Goku. As soon as I started the series I was shipping them and it never occurred to me that their relationship might be a father/son one. Now I'm wondering if I'm just a huge perv and missed something totally obvious. (Oops.)

Yeah, incest isn't a new subject for Saiyuki at all. I mean, Hakkai was sleeping with his sister.

I ship them more than Hakkai/Gojyo, which most of fandom seemed to get behind.

I don't think you did! Unless we both missed the obvious... and if so, at least we can keep each other company in hell, haha.

Oh man, once upon a time I was all kinds of obsessed with Hakkai/Gojyo. I loved how easily it was to find fic that included both pairings. Sanzo/Goku was seriously adorable though, and that relationship was one of my favorite things about the show/manga.

Well, this IS fandom... IDK about you but a lot of my boundaries and squicks have been erased since becoming part of fandom. Maybe the father/son thing doesn't compute the way it should. (Either way, I'm totes okay with this.)

I don't know why, but I saw Hakkai/Gojyo more as brothers. It didn't stop me from reading fic with them tho. Whoops.

I remember reading fic for H/G and S/G on mediaminer and adultfanfiction all the time.

I am not the same person I was before fandom, that's for sure. In fandom I let things slide and not bother me all the time. Incest doesn't even register as a squick anymore. Well, most of the time.

I guess in fandom, I just don't care? I mean, it's fictional so I don't get my panties in a twist about it.

Agreed! Not gonna say I'm NEVER bothered by things in fandom, but it can be easier to let go when you're dealing with something fictional.

Cross gen incest I can't do. Siblings/first cousins in fics, I'm fine with. I blame Harry Potter and anime for corrupting me thusly.

You should find out who the characters in the secrets are before you do these things, at least when they're character specific like this one.

I concur. I love Saiyuki so very much and I ship Hakkai/Gojyo like burning, but I've never been able to ship Sanzo/Goku or Konzen/Goku. I love their relationship, don't get me wrong, but I've never once seen it as romantic at all. Very very close and codependent, but not sexual.

I think to me, Sanzo's always been asexual (or just too annoyed with everything to bother with that crap) and Goku's just...not interested. Even that demon girl who kissed him, I didn't see him being romantically interested...just wanted to be her friend. I don't know, maybe I just still see him as being developmentally younger even though he's grown up a lot since he was let out.

Also, from Sanzo's end, didn't people use to insinuate that he was "too close" with Koumyou? (as in, jokes about priests and small boys close). And if I remember correctly, someone made that crack about Sanzo and Goku when Goku was younger. So I kinda read it as that being one of Sanzo's many berserk buttons.
