AYRT. Because I was making fun of an ethnic sounding name. I explained that it seems to be no different than calling Benedict Cumberbatch the various names he is called just because his name sounds different. But it isn't the same apparently.

It isn't the same, no. I understand why you're trying so hard to equate the two, because that would totally let you off the hook. Unfortunately for you, it's a false comparison because whenever you ridicule a PoC's culture (and yes, their name IS part of that culture), the baggage of that culture is right there and should be taken into consideration.

Benedict Cumberbatch belongs to a group (male, white, able-bodied, straight and additionally, British) who has, historically, always been in power, still is in power, and will likely continue to remain in power for quite some time. THAT'S why it's not the same.
