Being unhappy is no excuse to cheat, though.

Don cheats. He's a full-blown asshole who clearly has zero respect for any woman but Peggy (and even that's debatable).

Pete cheats. He's an idiot with an awesome wife who probably should've put her foot down about the cheating way earlier than she did. I'm glad she kicked his ass out. I hate Pete.

Roger cheats. Roger has a charming personality, and I do enjoy Roger/Joan, but ROGER IS STILL A CHEATER FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN HE CAN.

I pardon Joan's cheating because Dr McRapeypants was a douchey asshole who devalued Joan and raped her, but still!

I couldn't pardon /anything/ from Joan. She was so horrible

I...didn't say it was? I'm just saying that we're not supposed to see it as fun or glamorous or in anyway good.

Obviously some people don't want to watch a show about miserable people being shitty to each other, and that's cool. But that's not the same as the show acting like cheating is okay.

Yes, this.

I'd say the show portrays it as more of a symptom than an excuse.

I completely 100% agree with this comment, though. Especially the part about Pete. What a consummate dumbass.
