Fandom does this for almost everything, doesn't it? I mean, I feel like Hannibal is a pretty extreme example, but fandom woobifies and makes everything fluffy.

(That said I really need to watch Hannibal, but last time I tried I was eating pizza and couldn't handle some of the stuff that was on screen....)

yeah never try to eat while watching the show. You'll be tempted because the food ON the show looks so good, but just keep thinking: meat is people. Beer is people. Water is people.

Yeah, my sister and I were having pizza night together, and she brought up 'let's try Hannibal, I've been wanting to check that out!" we turned it on for a couple of minutes and nope, had to turn it off, right around the time we were like "what is this pepperoni made of...."

Yep. It's just what they do. They did it for Loki. They did it for Regina. They do it for just about every charismatic villain out there. It's like they can't help themselves.

And especially for Snaaaaape!

I forgot about Snape but, heck, yeah. Him too.

Pretty much yeah. I'm trying to think of a fandom that didn't woobify the villain to some extent, especially if it's a charismatic one.

There are a few because, frankly, what they do is considered too taboo like Candie from Django Unchained. Candie was charismatic but he was considered to vile to be woobify because you would have to justify slavery. And strange enough, while murdering a whole planet or butchering and eating people is okay, slavery doesn't get that pass. I think it's because slavery is a little too real while a well dressed cannibals who make wonderful dinners out of his victims is perfectly over the top and therefore can be joked about.

I hear that. I want to watch it because a lot of artists and folks I think are nifty are super into it right now. But cannibalism is such a squick for me.

I mean, it is for most people, really. But even just in a story (or in a song. THANKS, Queens of the Stone Age). Nope.

Haha, I ate during the last episode but I think it was popcorn so it didn't cross my mind to be skeeved out. Maybe if I were chowing down on a steak it would've been different.

erf, I feel like I may be an exception to no one eating during the show. That show makes me so hungry. Though, I did always eat my lunch in the cadaver lab when I was taking anatomy classes, sooooo...
